Mindfulness & Somatic
TRAUMA REPROCESSING

Naturally recover from trauma

Mindfulness & Somatic
TRAUMA REPROCESSING

We recover naturally

Trauma deeply changes our nervous system, body, and mind. The eight-week MASTR program heals these with:

  • Trauma-sensitive mindfulness, mindful self-compassion, and trauma-sensitive yoga
  • Somatic experiencing and eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing
  • Neuroscience-based methods designed to heal trauma
  • Practices based on scientific research
  • Unique and innovative practices presented in a coherent way to help people recover from trauma
What makes MASTR unique?

A focus on the body

Trauma affects the body by triggering a physical response. Recovery needs to include practices that heal the body and nervous system. The MASTR program treats the body as a central component to recovery.

Practices based on science

The effectiveness of each practice is supported by scientific studies, published in peer reviewed journals. This includes ancient practices, like mindfulness and yoga.

A deep understanding of trauma

Trauma takes away power and choice. In the MASTR program, you are given choice every step of the way and safe spaces are created where you can recover.

How we work

MASTR is an eight-week group program consisting of weekly two-hour sessions. During the course you will learn about how trauma affects the body, nervous system, and mind. You will learn about and practice trauma-sensitive mindfulness, mindful self-compassion, trauma-sensitive yoga, somatic experiencing, and eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing. Combined, these core practices allow the mind and body to heal.

Relationships are central to recovery. That’s why the MASTR program is delivered in an uncomplicated, inviting, and warm way, promoting connections within and with others.

MASTR can be done in person or online. The program has been completed by people all around the world, supported by the program’s written, audio, and video resources.

Mindfulness is central to each component of the MASTR program. Neuroscience has demonstrated that mindfulness practice promotes demonstrable changes in the nervous system that heals the effects of trauma. Emerging evidence suggests that mindfulness can restore the integrity of key brain networks damaged by trauma. Mindfulness may also help people regain their sense of self and to connect with their body.

Even greater recovery occurs when mindfulness is combined with other practices. That’s why the MASTR program combines mindfulness with each program component.

Recovery involves integrating traumatic memories so they are no longer as vivid and so they are no longer accompanied by intense emotions. Therefore, they tend to stop appearing as symptoms.

Our partnership

We will be travelling together on a recovery journey, so let me tell you a bit about me. I am a psychiatrist and for decades I have had the honour of working with people from the the Australian Defence Force, helping them recover from trauma. I have been trained to help people naturally heal. Over a number of years, I developed the Mindfulness & Somatic Trauma Reprocessing program, accepted by the Department of Veterans Affairs. I also presented the program to The Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists state conference in 2021.

“This is not about me leading you. It is about us exploring together to empower your journey of recovery.”

― Marty Ewer

  • If you are or have been a member of the Australian Defence Force, and if you have been psychologically affected by trauma, you will probably be eligible for the MASTR programme.
  • The MASTR program has helped many people with trauma-related symptoms including anger, anxiety, depression, insomnia, nightmares, trust issues, relationship problems, hypervigilance, and drug and alcohol problems.
